The availability of raw materials used to produce boards has been increasingly challenged: the availability of pine has been decreasing in recent decades; the cost of wood has been increasing due to the high demand for the production of boards, pellets, biomass, and paper; there is a lack of availability of FSC certified wood; There is a limitation in the ability to discover local supply sources, encouraging the need to resort to more distant markets, which negatively impacts IKEA Industry’s objective: to be the world leader in sustainable furniture production. In this sense, there is also constant work to reduce its carbon footprint and environmental impact. The project aims to add value to waste from the recycling process, which currently only has energy value, by developing an Ecoboard for use in packaging and furniture components.
