INNOMAT – Innovative Materials from Waste to Mobility and Habitat

The INNOMAT project aims to develop a new generation of smart, sustainable, and multifunctional composite and laminate materials, capable of integrating advanced functions such as structural monitoring, self-regeneration, and energy generation, transfer, and storage. The project also focuses on utilising waste as functional raw materials, promoting more circular and efficient solutions.

The technologies will be validated through two physical demonstrators: a technical housing module and the functional interior of a rail vehicle, thereby enabling the solutions to be tested under conditions close to real-world application.

In line with the ‘Norte 2030’ and ‘Portugal 2030’ strategies, INNOMAT integrates research, experimental development and productive innovation (TRL 3–9), ensuring the journey from knowledge creation to industrialisation.

The project will contribute to the ecological and digital transition of the housing and mobility sectors, strengthening national industrial competitiveness, reducing dependence on critical raw materials and promoting technological, circular and energy-autonomous products.
