Be.Neutral – Mobility Agenda for Carbon Neutrality in Cities

Be.Neutral has the ambition to position Portugal as an exporter of cyber-physical products with zero carbon mobility to cities worldwide. It was designed based on the opportunity to develop, industrialize and operate new mobility products and services (physical devices, connectivity, and data science platforms), capable of real-time quantification of avoided emissions to accelerate carbon neutrality by 2030.

The participation of PIEP –Innovation in Polymer Engineering in the BEN NG Project – WP6, is part of two sub-projects, which aim at the development of a bumper beam (project 4), contemplating the main activities of proof of concept with pultruded profile thermoplastic, the production of a thermoplastic U-shaped pultruded profile with the approximate dimensions of 60x60mm, the over-injection of the pultruded profile for functionalization of the section and integration of connecting elements to other structural elements, as well as the characterization of composite materials, resulting in the obtaining of a technological demonstrator for future integration in vehicles; and the development of a biocompound (project 5), covering the main activities of developing polymeric biocomposites with rice husks, characterization of the developed compounds and laboratory-scale validation, laboratory-scale production of the best compound with a view to validation in an industrial environment in SIMOLDES, as well as the recyclability study of the developed compound.
