World Environment Day: “Circular Economy and Environment” conference

On June 5th, World Environment Day is celebrated.

One of the ways PIEP celebrates this important day is to participate in the “Circular Economy and Environment” Conference at the Laboratório da Paisagem, in Guimarães, and discuss how to overcome the pollution created by the misuse of plastics.

The conference will start at 09:30 on the 5th of June, with the closure of the work scheduled for 17:00.

Participation is free but requires registration, which can be done through this link available until June 2nd, at 6:00 pm.

Reflect on greener purchasing, industry, and the climate transition

The conference will have the motto #BeatPlasticPollution and is part of the European project Circular PSP, which aims to explore good national and international practices in circular economy and environment, addressing academia, business fabric, and municipalities. With the presence of the Mayor of Guimarães, Domingos Bragança, and the Pro-Rector of the University of Minho, Miguel Bandeira, for the opening session (at 10:00 am), the conference comprises three round tables.

Guimarães will discuss topics such as “Sustainable Green Purchasing” – with the participation of Paula Alves (Coordinator of the Mission Team for Sustainable Purchasing, from the municipality of Lisbon), and the economist Pedro Mota e Costa –, as well as the challenge of climate neutrality in the industry. As this is a crucial issue in the matter of decarbonization and with the business community playing a leading role in climate neutrality, this roundtable, dedicated to industry, will include the participation of specialists and companies, who will even sign the Climate Pact of Guimarães, thus assuming its commitment to a greener future.

Another of the themes that will be under analysis is Research and Development and Innovation for the climate transition. To address this issue there will be several research centers with the participation of the municipality of Guimarães and the University of Minho. The conference will also have the presence of two speakers: Inês Costa, from Deloitte Portugal, and António Cunha, president of CCDR-N.
