The ‘Embalagem do Futuro” (Packaging of the Future) programme, in which PIEP is participating, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2026 Technology Excellence Awards in the Sustainability category, as part of PACK EXPO International, which takes place from 18 to 21 October in Chicago, United States of America.

This recognition highlights the ZØR ISTS (Intelligent Sustainable Fish Transport System) solution, an intelligent and sustainable system developed for the transport of fish, which incorporates innovative materials and monitoring technologies, contributing to greater efficiency, safety and sustainability throughout the value chain.

This distinction reinforces the importance of collaborative research and development in creating technological solutions with a real impact on the industry.

Portuguese innovation is once again in the international spotlight after making it into the European Top 10 for innovations at the Innovation Gallery 2026, the leading European trade fair for innovation in packaging – Packaging Innovations & Empack 2026 – held in February in Birmingham, UK.
