Design and research go hand in hand for a more sustainable and circular future. The Azores EcoBlue project, started in 2022 and completed in 2024, transformed algae and plastic waste recovered from the coast of the Azores into new by-products for the textile and construction sector. Around 40 tons of waste were transformed into textile and construction yarn.
The Azores Ecoblue project was the result of a consortium led by Nieta Atelier, Universidade dos Açores, Okeanos – Instituto de Investigação em Ciências do Mar, AEP – Associação Empresarial de Portugal, TERINOV, Visual Thinking, Aircentre, Universidade do Minho, Lab2PT, 2C2T, RESIAÇORES, Atlântico Line, Lasa, Filasa, PIEP – Innovation in Polymer Engineering and was financed by EEA Grants Portugal.
