The Innovation Ecosystem of the University of Minho, represented by its PIEP, Fibrenamics, and CCG/ZGDV interfaces, is present at one of the most important world Aeronautics and Defense fairs, the Farnborough International Airshow, in London, from the 22nd to the 26th of July.
Integrated into the Portuguese Pavilion, promoted by AED Cluster Portugal and IdD Portugal Defense, which has the participation of more than 25 national entities, the University of Minho’s interfaces are presenting their skills, technological capabilities, and innovation solutions, where the presentation of the collaborative innovation project FLY.PT stands out, which developed a new concept of urban mobility, integrated into the Portuguese strategy for the sustainable development of the Aeronautics sector. This mobilization project counts on the joint efforts of TEKEVER II, SETSA, Optimal Structural Solutions, CONTROLAR, Almadesign, INEGI, CEIIA, ISQ, INESC TEC, IPL, ISEP, PIEP, AEDCP, EMPORDEF, University of Évora, CODI, FHP.
The Aeronautics and Defense sector today plays a highly relevant role in the European economy, with more than 3,000 companies, which employ approximately 1.31 million people, and which in 2023 had more than 150 billion euros in turnover. Portugal today presents a Cluster that integrates companies and innovation centers that employ approximately 18,500 highly qualified people and that generate more than 1.72 billion euros in turnover, of which 87% are exports.
This participation reinforces the commitment of the University of Minho and its interfaces, PIEP, Fibrenamics, and CCG/ZGDV, to contributing to technological development and innovation in the Aeronautics and Defense industry, standing out for the excellence and impact of its projects.
