
The international conference “Green Horizons – Shaping the Modern Age” will take place on March 10th at the Teatro Jordão, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Integrated into the celebrations of Guimarães 26 – European Green Capital, the initiative is organised by the Center for Waste Valorisation (CVR), the PIEP – Centre for Innovation in Polymer Engineering, and the Landscape Laboratory. It has the support of Visit Portugal and the Municipality of Guimarães. Aiming to consolidate the city’s role in promoting sustainability, innovation, and scientific tourism, the conference reaffirms Guimarães as a reference territory in the areas of circular economy, bioenergy, urban ecosystems, and environmental policies.
Among the confirmed attendees are the Secretary of State for the Environment, João Manuel Esteves, the Mayor of Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo, and the President of the Board of Directors of CVR, Cândida Vilarinho.
Furthermore, the coordinator of the Guimarães 2030 Mission Structure, Isabel Loureiro, the UN Under-Secretary-General, Jorge Moreira da Silva, the former Minister of the Environment and Climate Action, João Matos Fernandes, and the scientist Rosa Vásquez Espinoza will also be featured in the sessions. It is also worth highlighting the presence of representatives from leading entities, institutions, and companies, such as Super Bock, Coca-Cola, the University of Minho, Smartwaste, Endutex, and Amorim Cork Composites.
The program includes conferences, technical visits to the CVR, PIEP, and the Landscape Laboratory, immersive experiences, sustainability circuits, and cultural activities, promoting learning, networking, and innovation. Green Horizons also assumes a strong commitment to operational sustainability, implementing responsible practices in waste management, sustainable mobility, conscious eating, and environmental monitoring.
