Project PAPILOMA wins national awards for business ideas

The Papilloma Project, under development at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), and in co-promotion with Labfit – HPRD Health Products Research and Development, Lda, recently won four prizes in national business ideas contests: 1st place in UBI’s “WIN-UBI Business Ideas Contest”; 1st place in the Contest of Entrepreneurial Ideas Making Health Safer – FabLabs Portugal Association, 2nd place “UI.CAN –Universities as an Interface for Entrepreneurship”; and 3rd place in “ARRISCA C Business Ideas Contest, Innovation category”.

PAPILLOMA presents itself as an innovative solution that simplifies and accelerates the treatment of lesions caused by HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) that, otherwise, could develop into cervical cancer in women.

This project (CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-181235) is in the validation phase of a prototype, TRL 4/5, consisting of the development of a highly effective vaginal application gel, containing several anticancer and antiviral properties, intended for the pharmaceutical industry.

The main promoter of the project is UBI professor Dr. Carla Cruz and researcher at CICS-UBI, who highlights in this project the effectiveness and safety of the prototype developed in the PAPILOMA project.

PAPILOMA relied on the contribution of PIEP – Innovation in Polymer Engineering – which was responsible for developing the packaging for the prototype of this project.
