Based on the success achieved in previous editions, DEP – Department of Polymer Engineering at the University of Minho, IPC – Institute of Polymers and Composites and PIEP – Centre for Innovation in Polymer Engineering, in partnership with the Guimarães City Council, organized the fourth edition of the technological days – Polímeros 2018, to take place on June 29 in the Small Auditorium of the Cultural Center of Vila Flor, in Guimarães.

This edition of the technological days, called Polímeros 2018, intends to confirm this event as an annual reference forum for technical and scientific discussion for all those who develop activity in the field of Science and Engineering of Polymers and Composites, namely technicians and managers, researchers, teachers and students.

The importance of the city of Guimarães/Universidade do Minho as a national center for Science and Polymer Engineering is indisputable. DEP, which celebrates 40 years of activity, has been training graduates, masters and doctorates, who collaborate in multiple companies and national and international entities. IPC and PIEP carry out an important scientific and technological research and innovation activity, with national and international impact.

Thus, during one day, it is intended to bring together professionals from the sector and alumni, students, teachers and researchers, to present and discuss experiences, as well as scientific and technological innovations and trends, both in the form of invited oral communications or through presentation of posters.

PIEP hosts Technical Workshop on Advanced Polymer Characterization To respond to new industry challenges and the requirement created in the development of new products for increasingly demanding applications, techniques such as Rheology, Thermal Analysis and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) have a role increasingly decisive. The efficient use of these techniques is essential for a wide range of industrial processes, quality control, R&D, failure analysis and process control.

This workshop, in partnership with Paralab, aims to present the fundamentals of these techniques and allow participants to have close contact with the equipment and its applications, while also providing a space for discussion and sharing of experiences.
